Here comes the end of this wonderful ride, the end of NaPoWriMo 2020 poetry contest hosted by dear John of Jar of Poetry. Thanks and a big round of applause for him for making this month special.
This week’s prompt was “Your Last Poem“. Here’s my entry for the same.
As all my leaves wither away
and the life within betrays
I think of all the times
when your light couldn’t shine
My canopy was too thick
dense and heavy like a brick
As all my branches begin to fall
and I cannot stand, no longer tall
I think of every instance
when I couldn’t be your shady expanse
My patience ran a little too thin
with a lack of peace within
As all my roots run dry
and the eyes can’t afford to cry
I think of all the moments
when even a fruit I couldn’t spent
Compassion wasn’t my strong suit
with a little too much to brood
As all my scent fades today
I collect my mistakes and weigh
the bag seems heavy like the skies
No more pretense or the white lies
So, before my existence completely declines
from whatever that remains, I apologize!
Before departing from this world, if given a chance, I would apologize for every time I hurt somebody, intentionally or otherwise. Tell me what would you do? Tell me your last poem!
Oh my!!! This is beautifully written. Made me cry.

This is really beautiful Bulbul. I like the idea of asking for forgiveness from all those I have hurt and I would pray for forgiveness as well. Your lines are gorgeous. Lovely work. Love 💕 Joni

Currently I’m trying to do whatever I’d do if I didn’t have time. Remember the past, plan for the future, but live now

That’s all that matters! This is a very good philosophy to follow but very tough too. Thank you for sharing your thoughts ❤️

Nice. A weak person can’t apologize, only a person with a big heart apologize.

Yes, yes! All and any time we’ve hurt someone can be a burden on our souls indeed. Loving the tree metaphor, so beautifully branched indeed. 💚🙏

p.s. *apologies for overuse of poor old word “indeed” 😅😂
Your words and especially the sentiments behind them are always lovely. I really liked the footnote btw, helped clarify the intention behind the poem.

Oh! Hush now, dear, that doesn’t matter! The intent behind the words makes all the difference and I hardly noticed. 😉 ❤
I am grateful enough that you take out time to read my work as is. 🤗🤗🙏🥰
Have an amazing weekend! xoxo
