En Attente

 Whispers, hushed murmuring
 Dark creatures in the alley shimmering
 The roar and the growl is the old game
 Now they saunter amidst, like dogs tame
 With the moves of chess board
 And pocket full of hidden swords
 They are ready to pounce
 Watch out! Everywhere they bounce
 Listen to their murky voices
 As the monster inside you rejoices
 He sings his old tune
 And you start dancing like a loon
 Innocent eyes watch your rave
 Dig up the earth, seeking a cave
 To hide till a new dawn rises
 over the bloodied skies

en attente means ‘awaiting’, in french, according to Google (I hope I have used it correctly). For perspective, this is in reference to the incidents of US capitol & frankly, can be extrapolated to many incidents in my own country (if you catch my drift).

  5. First lines especially well written. Evocative!! Whatever’s in me is definitely not rejoicing over those incidents… love the footnote. Very dramatic piece, dear A. There’s a lot of frightening stuff out there these days… and throughout the past millennia… guess we have to take action toward that new dawn.
